Holy shit. I didn’t know anything about The Budos Band when I decided to listen to them today. I mentioned when I listened to Baby HueyΒ that I found him through a Pandora station for Kashmere Stage Band. As soon as I search Apple Music for The Budos Band and saw the album cover for The Budos Band II, I realized I had heard at least one of their songs before on that same station. I couldn’t tell you what the song was. I looked at the track names and didn’t recognize any of them by name, and I started w/The Budos Band I today. But Dustin recommended all three of their albums to me, and based on how much I like the first one, I’ll probably listen to the other two tomorrow and Friday.

If you told me I was going to listen to a Soul record fromΒ 2006 by a band from Staten Island, I don’t know what I would have expected, but itΒ definitely wouldn’t have been this, and it wouldn’t have been this good.

I really like this album. So much so that I almost immediately bought it (and II and III). But I decided I’d wait until I’d listened to the other two albums. I will say that while I really like all of the tracks on this album, I’m not sure IΒ love any of them. They’re all good, but I’m not sure there’s anyΒ great standouts. It’s definitely a competent album, but it doesn’t reach out and grab me the way Too Many Zooz does. I’m holding out hope that tomorrow or Friday I’ll find what I’m looking for. But even if I don’t, this is definitely an album I’ll listen to again. I’m already re-playing now while I write this.
