I’m pretty sure my brother has been telling me to listen to Run The Jewels since before I started this blog. Today I finally listened to their first album, and it was definitely an interesting experience. It was very obvious to me why he and so many other people like the group, but the album didn’t really work for me. It definitely sounded very current, but while that gets most people, it’s where it lost me. The almost Dubstep style of the music really turned me off. In spite of that, their high-energy songs mostly kept my attention. They lost me towards the end, though. I disliked Twin Hype Back for a lot of the same reasons I didn’t like Ready to Die.

That said, I’m definitely willing to give them another shot. Looking at their Wikipedia pageΒ and the pages for the albums I see that the first didn’t chart, while Run The Jewels 2 hit #50 & 3 #13, and both had better reviews. While I didn’t like this album much, I definitely got what they were going for, and I liked it enough to give them another shot to see if they improve on the formula.
