I wanted to like this album from the start. The album art really caught my attention when I loaded up the link. The first track was quite enjoyable, too. Ultimately, though, it fell into the same trap that most of the stuff I’ve heard on SoundCloud falls into. It reminds me of when I was trying to teach myself PhotoShop: apply all the filters until it looks right. It never occurred to me that there was such a thing as too many filters. I got the same impression of Chinese Man’s music. This was particularly evident on track 4. Then the next track, Hancock, felt like it had 4 or 5 different endings, yet it just kept going. A lot of the tracks I rated “πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ” I really liked until about half way through when something happened to ruin them. Run Run Run started off great, but about 2 and a half minutes in, when it could have gracefully ended, it completely changed out from under me and the rest of the song wasn’t to my taste. Don’t Scream did a similar thing when all of a sudden it sped up and started sounding like The Prodigy. I was about to quoteΒ Antoine de Saint-Exupery here, but I used that gimmick already when I listened to Ronald Jenkees.
